For a 180,000sqm logistics warehouse in Dubai South, the fire consultant required Class A fire-rated ceiling panels in the basement sprinkler equipment rooms—but the budget didn't allow for aluminum. We supplied 2mm galvanized steel panels with a intumescent coating system that achieved Class A fire rating at 40% of the aluminum equivalent cost. The key was the 4-layer system: hot-dip galvanize (180μm) → epoxy tie coat → intumescent base coat (1.5mm dry film) → acrylic top coat. In a fire, the intumescent layer expands to 50× its original thickness, creating a 45-minute fire barrier that meets EN 1364-1 standards. For a hotel basement car park in Abu Dhabi, we provided stainless steel (SS304) panels with a #4 brushed finish for the visible ceiling areas—combining fire safety with the aesthetic quality expected in a luxury development.
